PedResp Group at WSPID 2025: PhD student Sam Engels presents Approach and RISE-surveillance studies

PhD student Sam Engels represented the Paediatric Respiratory Infection & Immunity Group at the World Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (WSPID) Congress, held from 28–31 October 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Sam presented findings from the Approach study on antimicrobial prophylaxis in young children with recurrent respiratory tract infections as a plenary oral presentation. In addition, he presented results from the RISE-surveillance study, conducted with our Caribbean partners, on respiratory tract infection prevalence and severity on the island of St. Maarten during a poster discussion session.

As a further achievement, we congratulate Sam on obtaining personal funding to cover travel and accommodation costs as an early-career researcher!
