Lilly Verhagen awarded prestigious Vidi grant to advance research on mucosal immunity in children
We are thrilled to announce that our group leader has been awarded a prestigious Vidi grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for her research programme.
Respiratory infections start at the respiratory mucosa. It is time we make better use of this knowledge to prevent and treat them. With this Vidi Lilly aims to uncover how mucosal immune responses, particularly antibodies at the respiratory mucosal surface, contribute to protection against infections in children. The programme will investigate differences in mucosal antibody responses between children, identify mechanisms underlying impaired mucosal immunity and explore how these protective responses can be stimulated.
We are incredibly excited about this next chapter and the opportunity to bring mucosal immunology closer to clinical practice, improving respiratory health for children worldwide.
