About Muco-Kids
The Muco-Kids study is a follow-up to the COVID-Kids project. Our aim is to monitor host mucosal immune dynamics during an acute respiratory tract infection in paediatric populations residing in a low-to middle-income (LMIC) setting.
This is a hospital-based prospective cohort study, in which we aim to include children hospitalised due to an acute respiratory tract infection at Tygerberg Children’s hospital, Cape Town, South Africa.
Through the collection of standard clinical data, in addition to daily mucosal sampling, we strive to identify diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers to predict disease severity and long-term respiratory health outcomes in these populations.
