Vaccinology Masterclass 2025: Vaccines in a changing world

Lilly Verhagen, group leader of the PedResp Group, is a member of the faculty of the Vaccinology Masterclass Foundation, which on 2 and 3 October 2025 organised the 15th edition of its accredited two-day postgraduate course for professionals in infectious disease prevention and control.

International and national experts discussed emerging infectious diseases, vaccine development, immune correlates of protection, systems vaccinology, and vaccination in the context of immunodeficiencies. The programme also addressed novel vaccine applications beyond infectious diseases, including vaccines under development for conditions such as hypertension and atherosclerosis, as well as sex-based differences in immune responses and their relevance for vaccination strategies.

As part of the programme, Lilly co-organised an interactive quiz session, stimulating discussion on topics ranging from vaccine history and policy to mucosal immunology and innovative vaccine delivery routes.

The Vaccinology Masterclass continues to be a valuable platform for interdisciplinary exchange between clinicians, researchers, and public health professionals in an evolving vaccination landscape.
